Whatever you do this year (and certainly for the rest of your life on earth), make sure you listen to God. Keep and grow a healthy relationship with Him through the consistent study of His word, prayer and fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Your greatest tool for success and continuing progress is your ability to hear God and be led by Him. You may be incompetent or inadequate in your dealings (I’m not in any way promoting incompetence), but you can get well ahead of your natural self, skill sets or people’s expectation of you by simply following Him. Elijah outran Ahab’s chariots by divine advantage. Samson exhibited superhuman strength by the Spirit of God. Joshua stilled the sun and moon to his advantage. Moses parted the Red Sea by the hand of God, Jesus rose from the grave the Holy Spirit…and so can you…and even much more!

However, there’s a part of you that will always stand in the way of your hearing and obedience of God. It is responsible for ensuring all the failures ever recorded in human history…it is the flesh!

Your flesh (human nature) will naturally go against God’s leading. (Galatians 5:17, Romans 8:7) And there are many (carnal) motivational speakers, life coaches, mentors, therapists, teachers, authors, web contents and even movie producers (and their movies) who are positioned to fuel the desires of your flesh to directly or indirectly disobey or disregard God. So, you can’t afford to let yourself loose while trying to keep it real in this entertainment driven world.

No matter how old you are in the faith, your flesh will never willingly submit itself to God’s authority. Ignorance of this truth has caused many believers to fall into wrong teachings and unholy lifestyles.

Just as God can’t communicate appropriately with you as a believer without your human spirit, satan can’t get you to do anything against God, your fellow human or your purpose without your flesh. While your lustful (or uncontrollable) desires are the gateways to yielding to any temptation, your flesh is the vehicle to carrying out the intent of such a temptation.

You must be very intentional about keeping your flesh as a slave at your command if you want to please God and carry out your life’s purpose. We generally sometimes feel excessively sleepy or unwilling when we ought to be studying the Bible, reading a good book, praying or working out plans for a good cause. It is becoming rampant nowadays to spend time chatting and watching/reading irrelevant content when we ought to be doing something along the lines of our set goals or God-given desirea. The flesh won’t always be willing. It is your duty to discipline and forcefully make it comply. Afterall, you have no other vehicle to take you to all of life’s destinations other than this body. You have no other servant that will carry out the plans/goals of the mind other than the physical part of you.

Your mind needs the cooperation of your body in order to succeed. Your body needs the rutless leadership of your mind in order to be compliant.

Always remember that the flesh is a good servant but a terrible master.

You can’t afford to play ignorance of this truth. While God is at work in you both to will and do of His good pleasure (Philipians 2:13), satan also has plans for you. We shouldn’t be ignorant of his agenda…

“so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.” 2 Corinthians 2:11

…his agenda is and has always been to still, kill and destroy, but we have victory over him already…our faith! Halleluyah!
